9/18 Angels Rankings – Pitchers

Home / Angels / 9/18 Angels Rankings – Pitchers

My rankings include the entire 40 man roster – not just the active 25 man.

These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker’s beard.

An asterisk* means the player was not on the active roster at the time of this posting.

Updates to List:

Joe Thatcher was removed from the DL
Added Jairo Diaz

Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments
1 weaverJered Weaver 1 1 5 Weaver was an ace last week and was in top of his career form against the Astros on Saturday when he struck out 12 over 7 innings.
2 smithJoe Smith 2 2 4 Perfect in 2 innings pitched
3 ph_434718Huston Street 3  1 4 He’s back after a hamstring issue took him out most of the week.
4 shoemakerMatt Shoemaker 6 uparrow+2 1 13 Fear the beard! Shoemaker was back in great form last week pitching a solid 6.2 innings of 1 run ball without a single walk.
5
6 jepsenKevin Jepsen 5 downarrow-1 4 6 Not great last week with a 11.57 ERA and 2.14 WHIP
7 grilliJason Grilli 7 4 8
8 rasmusCory Rasmus 11 uparrow+3 8 11 Great start again, putting the Angels further (3.1 innings) into the game than Santiago did his last outing.
9 morinMike Morin 10 uparrow+1  9 10  .083 BAA and 4 pretty solid innings of work
10 salasFernando Salas 9 downarrow-1 6 14
11  ph_545064Jairo Diaz  – 11  11  Diaz started out in CLASS A ball this year.  Then he moved up to AA, then got the call for The Show.  Pretty sure he is living the dream right now and he’s pitching pretty well.
12 wilsonCJ Wilson 13 uparrow+1 9 16 Pitched okay.  Somehow threw 108 pitches over 5 innings but he did get better as the game went on.  It’s impressive that CJ has that ability to get better as the game progresses even when he starts out a mess.
13 santiagoHector Santiago 8 downarrow-5 5 13 Kinda stunk it up last week.  Okay his first start was pretty solid for the usual 5 innings we’ve come to expect from him but his second start was atrocious with 5 hits and 5 walks over just 2 innings.
14 vinnieVinnie Pestano 14 13 14
15 bedrosianCam Bedrosian 15 11 19 2.50 WHIP last week in 2 innings.  This guy is very hit or miss and not very reliable.
16  leblancWade LeBlanc 16 12 16 Pitched well again last week and will probably make the playoff roster.

19 thatcherJoe Thatcher 18 downarrow-1 17 19  He’s back
20 herreraYoslan Herrera 20  19 20 .375 Average – someone also needs to tell him he wasn’t throwing batting practice
