Angels Power Ranking – Position Players – August 4th

Home / Angels / Angels Power Ranking – Position Players – August 4th

My ranking include the entire 40 man roster – not just the active 25 man.

These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker’s beard.

Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments
1 troutMike Trout  6 uparrow+5 1 6 Back to his usual superstar self last week with another home run and 2 stolen bases.  He still boasts a 100% stolen base success rate this year.
2 puljosAlbert Pujols 3 uparrow+1 2 2 No home runs last week but 3 doubles and a .300 OBP
3 hamiltonJosh Hamilton 7 uparrow+4 4 7 Has he found his power again?  Let’s hope so.  He belted two last week and led the team in RBIs.
4 freeseDavid Freese 8 uparrow+4 4 8 He got on base.  A lot.  His AVG is up 10 points from a week ago.
5 kendrickHowie Kendrick  5 3 5 Like many others, a not so great week with a .192 average.
6 calhounKole Calhoun 2 downarrow-4 2 6 Kinda ( well really) sucked last week but at least he didn’t bunt into his face.
7 aybarErick Aybar 4 downarrow-3 3 7 Aybar was actually worse than Calhoun last week but this all star will come back around soon enough.
8 navarroEfren Navarro 1 downarrow -7 1 11 Cooled quite a bit last week.  Only batted .200 but got his first big league stolen base!
9 cron
C.J. Cron, SLC
9  12  8 Cron had the highest AVG on the team last week but mind you – he only had 6 at bats.
10 ianettaChris Iannetta 10 9 9 Iannetta batted almost .300 last week and was better than Conger – so there.
11 congerHank Conger  11 11 13 Still the second best catcher on the active roster.  Yay Conger!
12 boeschBrennan Boesch, SLC  12 12 14 His hot streak continues with 3 more home runs last week.  Too bad the active outfield is crowded.  His time in the minors is limited if he keeps playing like he is.
13 cowgillCollin Cowgill, SLC  13 Cowgill is currently in the minors on a bunting rehab assignment.  Went 4 for 12 over the weekend.  Should be back on the active roster any day now.
14 fieldTommy Field, SLC 18 uparrow+4 15 18 10 for 26 with 3 home runs last week.  Giving Boesch a run for his money for hotest Bee right now.
15 jimenezLuis Jimenez, SLC  15 15 17 6 for 12 with a home run last week.  Another Bee on hot streak, though only for the weekend.
16 shuckJ.B. Shuck, SLC  16  – 16 16 His active roster stint last all of 4 plate appearances that resulted in just a walk. He had to move to make room for Wilson to blow his first start back.
17 campanaTony Campana, SLC 14 downarrow-3 13 18 Not so hot last week
18 greenGrant Green, DL 13 downarrow-5 10 18 Still on the DL.  Blah blah.
19 wheelerRyan Wheeler, SLC 19 Claimed from the Rockies.  Yay!?  Not real impressive this season but he plays 3B and sucks less (who doesn’t’) than McDonald and is younger (who isn’t) than McDonald.  I guess that’s why we have him now?
20 mcdonaldJohn McDonald  20 19 20 Now that we have Wheelie on the team can we cut him please?

Updates to List:

JB Shuck was sent back to Salt Lake
Ryan Wheeler was claimed off waivers from the Rockies in a questionable move because Dipoto is well.. Dipoto
