Angels Power Rankings – Pitchers – August 25th

Home / Uncategorized / Angels Power Rankings – Pitchers – August 25th

My rankings include the entire 40 man roster – not just the active 25 man.

These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker’s beard.

An asterisk* means the player was not on the active roster at the time of this posting.

Updates to List:

Garrett Richards was removed – had surgery and won’t be back til next year 🙁
Cam Bedrosian was called up, pitched crappy then was sent back down
Wade LeBlanc was purchased from the minors and called up
Mike Morin was recalled from the minors (technically the week before bus I missed him)

Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments
1 shoemakerMatt Shoemaker 9 uparrow+8 1 13 No hitter through 7.1 innings and he struck out 9 over 7.2 innings.  Just a day after we wondered what would happen without Richards, Shoemaker pitched a gem, showing up all those suckers who didn’t want to draft him.
2 ph_434718Huston Street 2  1 4 Street was Street.  One of the best, least talked about closers in the baseball.
3 weaverJered Weaver 6 uparrow+3 2 5 He had good stuff last week – especially on Sunday against the A’s when we needed it.
4 smithJoe Smith 3 downarrow-1 2 4 Lost a game Saturday thanks to a wild pitch.  Jerk.  Oh and hit someone that inning.
5 santiagoHector Santiago 5 5 12 Lowest ERA on the team among starters.  Quietly getting better and better though he still throws about 20 pitches per inning on average.
6 salasFernando Salas 10 uparrow+4 6 14 Spectacular.  4 innings, 7 Ks, no walks and only 2 hits.  That’s how you work it from the bullpen.
7 grilliJason Grilli 7 4 8 Blew the game Friday and got a save Sunday.  Still better than Frieri who is now in the minors.  Looking back – Dipoto is a genius.
8 jepsenKevin Jepsen 8 4 6 Got the job done last week.
9 morinMike Morin  –  9  9  2.1 solid innings last week.
10 wilsonCJ Wilson 13 uparrow+3 9 16 Pitched pretty solid last week.  9 Ks over 11.2 innings though the 8 walks is a bit concerning.
