Angels Power Rankings – Position Players – September 1st

Home / Angels / Angels Power Rankings – Position Players – September 1st

My rankings include the entire 40 man roster – not just the active 25 man.

These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker’s beard.

An asterisk* means the player was not on the active roster at the time of this posting.

Updates to List:

September call-ups included Brennan Boesch, Efren Navarro, Tony Campana, John Buck, CJ Cron, Luis Jimenez, Shawn O’Malley
Grant Green was removed from the DL
JB Shuck was removed from the 40 man roster

Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments
1 troutMike Trout 2 uparrow+1 1 6 2 more home runs (sound like a broken record from last week).  Also had the team’s only stolen base last week. Wait – Trout can still steal bases??
2 aybarErick Aybar 5 uparrow+3 2 7 Riding high on his hitting streak which now stands at 17 games.  Aybar had an amazing .556 OBP last week.  Would love to see his streak last 20+ games!
3 puljosAlbert Pujols 3 2 3 He’s been solid and reliable.  .357 OBP last week.
4 ianettaChris Iannetta 9 uparrow+5 4 11 He pretty much was amazing last week.  1.244 OPS, 2 home runs and a .440 OBP.  Conger who?
5 calhounKole Calhoun 1 downarrow-4 2 6 Kole had a rough week and struck out 9 times with a .100 Average. He’s human after all.
6 kendrickHowie Kendrick 6 3 6 Meh
7 hamiltonJosh Hamilton 7 4 10 Meh
8 freeseDavid Freese 4 downarrow-4 2 8 Well, Freese was frozen last week.  Nearly.  He just barely batted better than Calhoun and just barely had less strikeouts.
9 jimenezLuis Jimenez  12 uparrow+3 9 17 10 for 30 with a home run last week.  And he got called up to play once in a while.  So many third basemen…
10 wheelerRyan Wheeler * 10 10 19 Hit a home run last week.  Also missed September call-ups (so far)
11 omalleyShawn O’Malley  –  –  Hasn’t really done anything yet this year.  How much playing time will he even get??
12 beckhamGordon Beckham 14 uparrow+2 12 14 He’s been impressive so far and may have just pushed McDonald even further into buh bye land.  Hit his first home run in red and batted .308
13 cron
C.J. Cron
8 downarrow-5  8  13 Only 2 hits last week. In AAA.
14 navarroEfren Navarro 13 downarrow-1 1 14 Did I mention he can play first base?  And outfield?
15 boeschBrennan Boesch 16 uparrow+1 12 16 Good news:  He recently won the PCL batting crown!  Bad news: He hasn’t shown he can hit for the Angels yet.
16 cowgillCollin Cowgill 15 downarrow-1 11 16 Still kinda sucks.  With all the outfielder options now his playing time will be very limited.
17 greenGrant Green 17 10 18 Back from the DL
18 campanaTony Campana 18 13 18 Called up recently as well.  To be just a pinch runner?  His stolen base rate this year has been less than stellar.
19 buckJohn Buck  Made the September call-ups as expected.  he migtht get more playing time than Conger.  Or he may get about as much as McDonald
20 congerHank Conger 18 downarrow-2 11 20 Scioscia has been “accidentally” forgetting to play him lately.
21 mcdonaldJohn McDonald  20 downarrow-1 19 21 Yay!  With the September call-ups there is now room to move McDonald DOWN one more spot.
