Angels, pitching, Rankings
My rankings include the entire 40 man roster - not just the active 25 man. These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker's beard.   An asterisk* means the player was not on the active roster at the time of this posting. Updates to List: Mike Morin was put on the 15 day DL and removed from the list Vinnie Pestano was traded from the Indians, sent to minors then called up Tyler Skaggs is being removed for season ending Tommy John surgery :( Cam Bedrosian was sent back to the minors Caleb Clay was purchased from the minors and called up Joe Thatcher (DL) was removed from the list Rank Player Last Week…

Angels Power Rankings – Position Players – August 11th

Angels, Rankings
My rankings include the entire 40 man roster - not just the active 25 man. These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker's beard. Several position players stunk it up this past week and should get moved down.  Unfortunately, not many others did well enough to move up so most of this week's rankings doesn't change. An asterisk* means the player was not on the active roster at the time of this posting. Updates to List: Tommy Field was designated for assignment then subsequently claimed off waivers by the Pirates.  Buh Bye.  It's been real. CJ Cron was given a round trip ticket to Salt Lake to make room for an extra pitcher on…

Santiago vs. Kershaw vs. Santiago Factor

Angels, Rankings
It's not even fair to compare their stats so I won't.  The Angels CAN win this game.  They have the offense to get it done and the bullpen to hold it down. Looking at the offense you have Puljos who has a career .444 against the Dodgers ace.  Adding to that a .565 OBP and he has basically owned him.  Kendrick also has a career .417 against Kershaw which is pretty amazing as well.  However, no one else other than McDonald has hit better than .300 off him and if McDonald starts the way he's been hitting this year then..  Hamilton, Trout and Calhoun are all unknowns with no career stats against Kershaw and Aybar has a respectable .273 though he's been off lately. Strategy - The Angels need to…

Angels Power Ranking – Pitchers – August 4th

Angels, Rankings
My rankings include the entire 40 man roster - not just the active 25 man. These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker's beard. Last week certainly had it's ups and downs in the pitching department and there were a metric crap ton of roster changes. Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments 1 Huston Street 1 -  1  4 3 save appearances = 3 saves AGAIN.  Almost blew one of them by allowed the bases to load up but pitched superbly to get out of the jam.  If only he can maintain in zero ERA with the Angels for the rest of the season. 2 Joe Smith 3  +1 2 3 Smith…

Angels Power Rankings – Pitchers – July 28th

Angels, Rankings
My rankings include the entire 40 man roster - not just the active 25 man. This week was tough since pitching was pretty great (for the most part).  The Angels had 4 pitchers with at least 2 appearances that all gave up zero runs.  These four (Jepsen, Rasmus, Smith, Street) combined for 13 strikeouts, 2 hits, and 1 walk in 11.1 innings.  4 of the 5 starters (Richards had an off weak) all had ERAs below 3 and WHIPs no higher than 1.06.  It was definitely a great pitching week for the Halos. These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker's beard. Angels Power Rankings – Position Players – July 28th

Angels, Rankings
My ranking include the entire 40 man roster - not just the active 25 man. These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker's beard. The top 3 players for the Angels this week were all youngsters with Navarro, Calhoun, and Cron sporting the top 3 averages for a team that had a mediocre offensive week.  The Angels only scored 19 runs in 7 games with 3 home runs.  Lackluster for such an offensive powerhouse of a team.  Fortunately, the pitchers were mostly on and the Angels ended the week 4-3. Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments 1 Efren Navarro 9  +8 1 11 Holy on fire.  Navarro has been tearing it up…

Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments 1 Garrett Richards  1  - 1 1 Just missed being the only Angels Pitcher to make the All Star Game.  He's been the ace so far this season 2 Jered Weaver  2  - 2 2 8 strikeouts through 6 innings of the marathon game on Friday.  Nicely done Weaver. 3 Joe Smith 3 - 3 3 We'll let his few bad games go since he has a .90 WHIP and is a beast against righties (.149 Avg) and in away games (.143…

Angels Mid Season 40 Man Roster Power Rankings – Position Players

Angels, Rankings
It's time for the Angel's Mid Season Power Rankings!  Next up - position players! Oh, I know.  Technically mid season was June 29th or so but I figured All Star Break was a good time to start. My rankings will include the entire 40 man roster - not just the active 25 man. These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker's beard. 1 Mike Trout 1 1 Who the heck else would be #1 aside from Mike Trout?  He ain't making all that money for nothing.  Unless you count this year's salary then the Angels are getting a steal, just like Trouts 100% success rate.  See what I did there? 2 Albert Pujols 2…
