2016 MLB Standings Predictions

Uncategorized
It's finally baseball season, which means it's time for Baseball Chick's 2016 predictions (though they do come a few days too late).  Let's start in the West. AL WEST Houston Astros, 88-74 Los Angeles Angels, 85-77 Texas Rangers, 82-80 Seattle Mariners,  80-82 Oakland Athletics, 69-93 The Astros are full of young talent and have signed 25-year-old Ken Giles to close out games for them in 2016.  Their talent should continue to mature and likely push them to the top spot with the Angels close behind, despite some questionable off season transactions (or lack thereof) by the Halos.  It's hard to ever count a team out that boasts Mike Trout, the best player in baseball, and a future 1st ballot Hall of Famer - Albert Pujols.  Texas did win the division…

Week 2 Power Rankings – Position Players

Angels, Rankings, Uncategorized
We've now had one full week of baseball so let's take a look at  the Angels power rankings leading into week 2.  There are currently way too many batting averages on the team in the .000's, .100's and .200's ranges.  The Halos are currently on the bottom of the AL in AVG & SB and second from last in OBP, Walks and Runs.  Ouch. My rankings include the entire 40 man roster. These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker's beard. *** Salt Lake Bees Roster ** Arkansas Travelers Roster Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments 1 Mike Trout  1 - 1 1 Trout took his hot spring right into opening week and…

Last Weekend MLB Questions

Uncategorized
Here it is.  The last 3 days of the regular season and some questions certainly remain.  Who will do what?  Who will win wear?  What will Derek Jeter wear on his last game (hint:  Probably shoes with a self edifying name, maybe a J necklace and I wonder if he got that ass tatoo yet that says "Captain") Will the Los Angeles Angels be the first team since 2009 to win 100 games? Yes Who will win the AL Central, the Detroit Tigers or Kansas City Royals?  Tigers Will the Seattle Mariners make it to the playoffs?  No (They have to win at least two from the Angels while the A's would have to lose at least 2 against the Ranger) Will the Pittsburgh Pirates catch the St. Louis Cardinals for…

Hot and Not

Uncategorized
Today we are going to look at the playoff contenders that are hot - and those that are not.  September is the time to go on a hot streak and it certainly is not the time to get cold.  It's make or break time for about 13-15 teams and only 10 of them are heading to the playoffs (with only 6 avoiding that dreaded one game wildcard matchup). Hot: Los Angeles Angels The Angels are riding a 5 game win streak where they have scored 34 runs on 70 hits.  They absolutely blasted the Twins on Sunday on their way to a sweep and made the Indians wish on Monday that their rain out makeup game never happened.  Before their two loses to Houston, they also swept the Oakland Athletics…

Angels on 5 game Hit/Run Barrage

Uncategorized
After dropping two games to Houston and scoring only 4 runs, The Angels offense boarded a freight train and scored 34 runs on 70 hits over their last 5 games. During those games, the Angels have hit 3 triples, 14 doubles and 7 home runs. Kendrick and Pujols have led the way going 13 for 23 and 10 for 23 respectively. Keep pouring it on Angels!

Angels Power Rankings – Pitchers – September 8th

My rankings include the entire 40 man roster - not just the active 25 man. Elimination Watch + Magic Numbers

Uncategorized
Only about 20 games left in the season baseball fans and things are going to get exciting! In the American League, 6 teams are still very much in the running with a very close wild card race between the slumping A's, so-so Tigers, and surging Mariners. The National League is even tighter with 7 teams in the mix.  A four-way race is shaping up for the wild card spots with the Giants nearing a lock and the Pirates/Braves/Brewers all separated by a mere half game. As of today, teams that have been eliminated or will be in the next few days are: Red Sox (from 1st to last - the mighty have fallen) Astros (with 19 games to play, the Astros are already better than any of their past 3…

Who is Wade LeBlanc?

Uncategorized
Matt Wade LeBlanc has never been on television though it sounds like he has.  For some reason I want to call him Matt but I'm pretty sure that guy on Friends can't throw a cutter. LeBlanc was drafted in the second round of the 2006 draft by the Padres.  He went to the Marlins in 2012, the Astros in 2013, and the Yankees briefly in 2014 due to a waiver loss before the Angels signed him.  In short, he's been tossed around like a rag doll and has amassed a mere 424 innings in the majors, mostly with the Padres. LeBlack throws a fastball (86.2 mph), curve (74 mph), cutter (82.9) mph, and change-up (75.2 mph).  Those are average speeds according to FanGraphs and his fastball certainly is not overwhelming.…
