Mike Trout 40-40 Club?

Angels
In major league baseball, the 40-40 club is an elite group of only 4 people. Only 4 people in the history of baseball have ever hit 40 home runs and stolen 40 bases in the same season. It's important to note, that three of those four (Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, and Alex Rodriguez) are all known steroid users which leaves possibly only Alfonso Soriano as the only "legitimate" member of that group, further proving how difficult entry is. Can Mike Trout join that club? He certainly has the tools to make a run at it, and even has a shot this year, though he needs to get busy on the bases.  In fact, it's base stealing that holds Trout back most.  He stole 49 bases his rookie year and 33…

Freeway Series: Winners and Losers

Angels, Dodgers
Well, that didn't go as we had hoped!  This year's freeway series is over and the result is that the Angels now sit 3 games behind the Oakland A's in the AL West.  Who were the winners and losers of this 4 game series?  See my thoughts below.   The Losers: Los Angeles Angels: The Angels lost the series 3-1 and at the very least should have split it.  Lack of offensive showing and errors proved to be part of the reason for the series loss.  The Angels were outscored 14-10, but more so they only scored 1 run in the last two games (AT HOME) with a combined 7 hits.  The Angels have been great at the Big A this year but apparently the Dodgers didn't get that memo.…

Fastest Man in Baseball and why doesn’t Trout steal more?

Angels
As we know, you can't measure speed by stolen bases alone. Sure, you need to be fast to steal bases but a high number of stolen bases does not mean you are the fastest. This year - Dee Gordon, Billy Hamilton, and Jose Altuve have been swiping bases like crazy, while many are wondering - has Mike Trout slowed down?  Trout has only 10 stolen bases this year compared to the others 43, 38, and 41. An interesting statistic is that Trout has been on base 163 times this year.  Stolen base leader Dee Gordon has been on base 134 times.  However, if you take away extra base hits from both of them you have them on first base at 109 times (Gordon) and 110 times (Trout).  So, theoretically, they…
