Week 3 Power Ranking – Pitchers

Home / Angels / Week 3 Power Ranking – Pitchers

We’ve now had one full week of baseball so let’s take a look at  the Angels power rankings leading into week 2.  Pitching was all over the place in week 1 and we apparently are currently without an “ace”.  Most of the top performances came out of a bullpen that was pretty on target if you ignore Salas.

My rankings include the entire 40 man roster.

These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker’s beard.

*** Salt Lake Bees Roster
** Arkansas Travelers Roster

Changes:

Adam Wilk added to 40 man roster
Tyler Skaggs removed from 40 man roster

Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments
1 ph_434718Huston Street 1 1 10 Still one of the most underrated closer in MLB.  Two more appearances.  Two More saves. Three more Ks. Zero more runs allowed.
2 santiagoHector Santiago 13 uparrow+11 2 14 Santiago is our new ace?  He’s still not completely efficient in his pitch counts, but hey – he’s getting it done!  He even made it 7 full innings last week with a .86 WHIP.  The day he pitches a complete game is the day I become a full believer.
3 smithJoe Smith 6 uparrow+3 3 13 Pretty much the same as Street.  Getting the job done efficiently and quietly.
4 ramosCesar Ramos 7 uparrow+3 5 7 See Street + Smith.  Another good bullpen asset last week.
5 wilsonCJ Wilson 12 uparrow+7 11 12 During week 1 he was good then bad – then last week he was good again.  So far I like the odds and Wilson pitched a solid 6.2 innings with a .130BAA in week 2.
6 vinnieVinnie Pestano 4 downarrow-2 4 4 3 walks and a hit in 2 innings so not great for his WHIP but didn’t allow a run.
7 morinMike Morin 3 downarrow-4  3 3 2 innings, 2 earned runs.  A 9.0 ERA is not what you want in a 7th inning man.
8 shoemakerMatt Shoemaker 9 uparrow+1 7 9 Still okay last week.  6.1 IP, 1.11 WHIP and 3 earned runs.
9 richardsGarrett Richards 8 downarrow-1 6 8 Richards is back!  However, is debut was meh.  He walked 4 and gave up 5 hits in 5 innings.
10 josealverazJose Alvarez 5 downarrow-5 5 8 Stunk it up last week with 5 earned runs in 3.1 innings and had 2 crappy outings.
11 weaverJered Weaver 14 uparrow+3 1 14 Weaver was better this past week with a solid 6 innings, 3 Ks, and 2 earned runs.
12 aheaneyAndrew Heaney 10 downarrow-2 10 16 Miss Kendrick yet?  Heaney didn’t even make a full inning in his last appearance.
13 rucinskiDrew Rucinski 2 downarrow-11 2 2 Rucinski got shelled so bad in his first Halo start that he was sent packing to AAA right after the game.  Ouch.
14 tropeanoNick Tropeano 11 downarrow-3 9 11 5 innings pitched, 5 Ks, 3 earned runs.  Meh.
15 rasmusCory Rasmus 15 12 15 Currently on the DL.
16 bedrosianCam Bedrosian 16 16 17 13 Ks in 8 inning so far in AAA this year and continued to impress last week.
17 mybrydeJeremy McBryde 17 17 19 Meh.
18 salasFernando Salas 18 15 18 Better last week – no earned runs!
 19 reynoldsDanny Reynolds 19 18 19 Just 1 inning pitched last week.
