It’s time for the Angel’s Mid Season Power Rankings! Next up – position players!
Oh, I know. Technically mid season was June 29th or so but I figured All Star Break was a good time to start.
My rankings will include the entire 40 man roster – not just the active 25 man.
These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker’s beard.
1 |
Mike Trout |
|
|
1 |
1 |
Who the heck else would be #1 aside from Mike Trout? He ain’t making all that money for nothing. Unless you count this year’s salary then the Angels are getting a steal, just like Trouts 100% success rate. See what I did there? |
2 |
Albert Pujols |
|
|
2 |
2 |
Puljos had a great April and is coming back around again. We’ll forgive his transgression in the middle there. |
3 |
Kole Calhoun |
|
|
3 |
3 |
Calhoun just barely missed the #2 spot. Don’t’ worry kid, Puljos will slump again and you can stay hot and take over his spot. |
4 |
Erick Aybar |
|
|
4 |
4 |
This first time all star has been having a great season. He’s better than the All start game starter at SS, but don’t tell the Yankees that. |
5 |
Howie Kendrick |
|
|
5 |
5 |
Kendrock has been solid as per usual. A slightly rough June but he’s back in it to win it. |
6 |
David Freese |
|
|
6 |
6 |
Freese has been doing amazing things with his bat lately. His nearly .200 average at the beginning of May has leaped forward with a .280 in June and .371 so far in July. |
7 |
Josh Hamilton |
|
|
7 |
7 |
Hamilton started great then screwed up his thumb. Then he came back and started great again. Now he’s batting .269 so far in July but still holds the #7 spot. |
8 |
C.J. Cron |
|
|
8 |
8 |
He’s got power. He’s got even got a triple. There is even an intenstinal disease named after him. Who needs a Trumbo when you have a Cron? |
9 |
Chris Iannetta |
|
|
9 |
9 |
The best catcher on the roster (though there are only 3 of them on the 40 man). Iannetta is having a good season. |
10 |
Collin Cowgill, DL |
|
|
10 |
10 |
Cowgill has been okay. That’s why he’s near the last of the regular starters. On a team with this kind of offensive output you have to keep up and he isn’t even batting his weight the last few weeks. |
11 |
Efren Navarro |
|
|
11 |
11 |
Navarro has done pretty well in the bigs and is doing well in SLC this year. He could move higher if he stands out more. |
12 |
Grant Green |
|
|
12 |
12 |
My comments for Green I could almost cut and paste from Navarro. Green can play just about anywhere but his playing time on the active roster will likely be limited. |
13 |
Hank Conger |
|
|
13 |
13 |
King Conger is great. He’s fun. He has a sense of humor and might like long walks on the beach. He’s an excellent pitch framer but his hitting has been pretty lack luster. |
14 |
Brennan Boesch, SLC |
|
|
14 |
14 |
This kid is doing great in AAA. His 13 at bats for the Angels leave something to be desire though. |
15 |
Tommy Field, SLC |
|
|
15 |
15 |
Batted .429 in 14 at bats with the Angels and currently playing well in SLC. |
16 |
J.B. Shuck, SLC |
|
|
16 |
16 |
I really wanted to put Shuck higher. In fact, he’s not lower because there are some pretty crappy players below him. That’s about all I can say. |
17 |
Luis Jimenez, SLC |
|
|
17 |
17 |
They say he has potential and he has 15 home runs in AAA this year. Let’s see what he can do. |
18 |
Tony Campana, SLC |
|
|
18 |
18 |
Just came from Arizona and is doing okay in AAA. |
19 |
John McDonald |
|
|
19 |
19 |
Only ranked higher than one minor league player. He is our current Ibanez and really isn’t helping the team at all especially with how hot Freese is or how easily Green, Navarro, or Boesch could fill his spot without skipping a beat. |
20 |
Ian Stewart, SLC |
|
|
20 |
20 |
Stewart is at the bottom of the list. Just under the horribly batting McDonald. That’s all I have. |
