My rankings include the entire 40 man roster – not just the active 25 man.
These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker’s beard.
Several position players stunk it up this past week and should get moved down. Unfortunately, not many others did well enough to move up so most of this week’s rankings doesn’t change.
An asterisk* means the player was not on the active roster at the time of this posting.
Updates to List:
Tommy Field was designated for assignment then subsequently claimed off waivers by the Pirates. Buh Bye. It’s been real.
CJ Cron was given a round trip ticket to Salt Lake to make room for an extra pitcher on Sunday since the bullpen was exhausted in the Saturday night Marathon.
Colling Cowgill was moved to the active roster
Rank | Player | Last Week | Change | High | Low | Comments |
1 | Mike Trout | 1 | – | 1 | 6 | Trout was Trout last week. Some key hits. Key Home run. Batted .241 but one of the best on the team last week. |
2 | Albert Pujols | 2 | – | 2 | 2 | Pujols has been on. And he cracked two more homers last week |
3 | David Freese | 4 | +1 | 3 | 8 | Freese batted .304 in a week when most the team didn’t even reach the mendoza line. |
4 | Kole Calhoun | 6 | +2 | 2 | 6 | Led the team in average last week and stolen bases (1). |
5 | Howie Kendrick | 5 | – | 3 | 5 | Errors? And pretty crappy batting. We want the old Kendrick back. |
6 | – | – | – | – | – | This space for rent |
7 | Erick Aybar | 7 | – | 3 | 7 | See Howie Kendrick. |
8 | Efren Navarro | 8 | – | 1 | 11 | Cooled the week before last and froze last week going only 1 for 12. |
9 | C.J. Cron* |
9 | – | 8 | 12 | Temporarily sent back to SLC. Maybe we can trade him before he stops hitting home runs in the majors? |
10 | Josh Hamilton | 3 | -7 | 4 | 10 | Holy stink. He was so bad last week that Scioscia pulled a Hammy on Sunday. Get it? hah. 2 for 28 and batted .071 which incidentally is still BETTER than McDonald’s home batting average. |
11 | Chris Iannetta | 10 | -1 | 9 | 11 | Both Angels catchers were crappy last week with Iannetta only slightly less. Though he blow an easy catch against the Dodgers at home. Your job title is CATCHER. You have one job to do. |
12 | Collin Cowgill | 13 | +1 | – | – | Cowgill is back. And still just Cowgill. |
13 | Hank Conger | 11 | -2 | 11 | 13 | Still the second best catcher on the active roster. Yay Conger! |
14 | Brennan Boesch * | 12 | -2 | 12 | 14 | Amazing week last week going 10 for 23 with 3 home runs but he gets moved down for not being able to hang on to his bat – twice. In a row. Then kinda laughing about it. |
15 | Luis Jimenez * | 15 | – | 15 | 17 | So So week. Still not ready for prime time but surely better than McDonald. |
16 | J.B. Shuck * | 16 | – | 16 | 16 | Still Shucking it up in Salt Lake and going 8 for 24 last week. Not bad. |
17 | Ryan Wheeler * | 19 | +2 | 17 | 19 | 6 for 23 with a HR. Can we please dump McDonald now and move him up to back up Mr. Freeze? |
18 | Grant Green, DL | 18 | – | 10 | 18 | Still on the DL. Blah blah. |
19 | Tony Campana * | 17 | -2 | 13 | 19 | Not so hot last week. Again. Won’t be playing outfield in the majors any time soon unless he goes elsewhere. |
20 | John McDonald | 20 | – | 19 | 20 | I really have nothing to say about him anymore. Okay – one more. How can you have a .032 average at home (.159 total) and still have a spot on the roster? Oh yeah, because Scioscia. |
