Week 4 Power Rankings – Position Players

Home / Angels / Week 4 Power Rankings – Position Players

We finally had some signs of life in our offense last week with Cron and Calhoun leading that charge. Still waiting for the rest of the team (aside from Trout and Giavotella) to catch up.

My rankings include the entire 40 man roster.

These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Shoemaker’s beard.

*** Salt Lake Bees Roster
** Arkansas Travelers Roster

Changes:

Efron Navarro sent to minors (Salt Lake)
Gary Brown sent to minors (Claimed off waivers from St. Louis)
Grant Green called up from the minors
Removed Josh Hamilton (though he was technically on the roster last week)

Rank Player Last Week Change High Low Comments
1 troutMike Trout  1 1 1 Trout managed to put up a .452 OBP last week along with 3 stolen bases and 1 home run.  So good to see him swiping more bases in 2015!
2 calhounKole Calhoun 3 uparrow+1 3 12 Calhoun stayed hot for a second week on his way to a .400 average last week with 2 home runs and a 1.039 OPS.  At 500k, he’s the best bargain on the team right now.
3 giovotellaJohnny Giavotella 2 downarrow-1 2 9 Johnny G is still Johnny B Good.  He only dropped a spot to make room for the smoking hot Calhoun.  He hit his first Angels Home run last week!!
4 cron
C.J. Cron
8 uparrow+4 2 10 Damn is he finally on fire!  Cron had 3 doubles and a .435 avg last week.  No home runs, but who cares with those numbers.
5 pujolsAlbert Pujols 4 downarrow-1 2 4 Yep, he’s still stuggling.  He had a double last week though. Yay!
6 aybarErick Aybar 5 downarrow-1 3 8 Aybar’s average was up every so slightly at .231 which is at least above the Mendoza line.
7 freeseDavid Freese 6 downarrow-1 4 6 A home run and 3 doubles.  Getting better.
8 cowgillCollin Cowgill 7 downarrow-1 5 7 Not so great last week though he did only have 12 at bats.
9 greenGrant Green 12 uparrow+3 12 16 Green was doing great in Salt Lake and was called up to The Show going 2 for 5.  He can play pretty much everywhere (probably even pitch), so he’s a great utility addition and he generally hits better than Cowgill and definitely better than Joyce.
10 navarroEfren Navarro*** 10 4 10 Poor Navarro was sent down to AAA last week where he promptly gave the Angels the finger by hitting .381 with a home run.
11 kubitzaKyle Kubitza*** 11 10 14 Still on fire though his season average has dropped to a measly .350.  Oh, he also had a home run last week.
12 mattjoyceMatt Joyce 9 downarrow-3 7 12 I don’t care that he got a hit yesterday – Joyce has been looking lost at the plate.  I consider his hit a fluke and not the end to his “slump”.
13 carlosperezCarlos Perez*** 13 13 14 When can we call him up to replace Iannetta?  Batting .357 this season and put up two 3 hit games last week.
14 jettbandyJett Bandy*** 14 14 19 Another catcher that’s better that Iannetta.
15 rutledgeJosh Rutledge*** 18 uparrow+3 15 19 Starting to heat up in AAA and even had a 5 for 5 game this past week.
16 featherstonTaylor Featherston 15 downarrow-1 15 16 Poor Taylor.  He’s on the roster but he’s not playing.  Last week he only had 1 more at bat and very little field time.
17 ianettaChris Iannetta 16 downarrow-1 11 17 His free fall continues.  Batted .063 last week?  Seriously – how low can his average go??
18 buteraDrew Butera 17 downarrow-1 17 18 Made some horrible plays behind the plate and went 0 for 6.  Pretty much wasted space on the roster.
19 robertsonDaniel Robertson*** 19 11 19 This guy continues to un-impress.
20 garybrownGary Brown*** 20 20 Leftovers from the waiver wire courtesy of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Welcome to Salt Lake!
